Just when you thought you had seen it all, we at Run The Planet have found another way to bring traveling and running together under a single theme. We are proud to introduce "World Crossroads". This new Run The Planet webpage brings to you from around the world - or better yet, currently from United States, Italy and Brazil - the street signs for all the walkers, runners, hikers and pedestrians of the planet. The new webpage highlights the road signs for all of us who look like black outlines of people with no faces and stick limbs, those signs that tell us where and where not to walk, run, trek, cross, those signs that seems boring but when put all together become an entertaining glance to the blend of cultures worldwide. In your quest to Run The Planet these signs are necessary, for there will always be a road for runners and walkers to cross. And it is always better to do it safely.
Speaking of street signs, Steve Walker answers this month the latest letter received in the Rtp mailbag. A curious question from a runner like us, training faster than the locally posted speed limit. Is he breaking the law? How can he improve his speed when moving that fast is prohibited? A question Steve answer to with his usual joy-de-courir.
That's all for this month, but don't be fooled: it is not too little.Run The Planet is steadily growing and expanding, thanks to you and your constant and precious contribution. Whether you are a slow or a fast runner, a walker, a hiker or simply a pedestrian, this month we give you a task: pick up your camera, take some picture of the street signs in your own country and send them over. Help "World Crossroads" become the representation of the simplest and universal way of moving, which is transportation by foot and help pave the road to easy traveling for other runners like you.
Thank you for being part of the Run The Planet community. Enjoy your next run.

Description of the month - Hyderabad (Pakistan)
By Brian Sutcliffe - It is possible, early on Sunday morning, for males to run on the streets of Hyderabad but beware of dogs and missing manhole covers, don't wear shorts and don't carry valuables. At other times the city is too congested for running. The best off street running location is around the cricket stadium, opposite to the Indus hotel, where it is possible to devise a 1.5 km loop. Best times are dawn and dusk. A few local walkers are usually out in the evening and you will find the occasional jogger. Avoid Friday evenings when every available piece of flat ground is devoted to cricket and it is impossible to find anywhere to run.

Getting real about running, by Gordon Bakoulis, paperback, 432 pages, Ballantine Books (2002), ISBN: 0345447271
In more than twenty years as a runner and a coach, world-class marathoner Gordon Bakoulis has tackled almost every problem a runner can face. Now in her accessible, inspiring new book, Bakoulis becomes your personal coach and mentor, preparing you to meet the exhilarating challenges of running. She discusses everything a runner must know, including setting up a progam (three-month, six-month, and one-year training cycles; the importance of rest and downtime), choosing equipment (foot types and finding shoes that meet your unique biomedical needs; the latest apparel for hot-and-cold-weather running), common injuries and how to avoid them (runner's knee, heel spurs, shin splints; the benefits of stretches, massage, and yoga), fueling your body (diets for different lifestyles and fitness levels; easy, nutritious recipes), the science of running (the "hard-easy" approach to training), running with and for your head (how running can make you feel more sane and alive, with mantras used by champions), children who run (an illustrated discussion of the special concerns of runners from 6 to 18), running and aging (advice for runners over 50, with profiles of senior runners), plus pace charts, mile/kilometer conversion, and running resources and organizations. "Getting real about running" gets down to the real nitty-gritty of this most satisfying of sports. Here is a book that is worth its weight in gold medals! Gordon Bakoulis is the author of "Cross-Training: The complete training guide for all sports" and "How to train for and run your best marathon". She competed in the U.S. Olympic marathon trials in 1988, 1992, 1996, and 2000, represented the United States in the 1991 World Championship marathon, and has twice placed among the top 10 finishers in the "New York City Marathon" - Click on the cover to order this book at a special price Rtp Newsletter archive • The Global Telegraph • Run The Planet
