Hello Planeteers,

This month's newsletter will be unusual. No statistics, no links, no book of the month, just down to the essential.

Our main server, in fact, crashed and - although the event calendars, the running course descriptions and the links databases did not suffer from the system's meltdown - most of the webpages were scrambled up, and we had to manually and individually assure that the information we restored was accurate and up to date. Some of the most recent images are still being recovered, and we are asking you to be patient.

The information we initially prepared for this newsletter was corrupted, and we had unfortunately to choose between bringing back your favorite website or providing you with your monthly dose of written running news. We choose the first option, figuring you will be glad to have a little more free time to go running before the Holiday season kicks in.

We immediately reconstructed the website with its most recent version, but for a couple of days some of you might have experienced a "trip back in time" when visiting a "temporary"Run The Planet dating back to the month of August. For a limited time some of the sections and some of the articles we feature in our running library were unreachable, but now everything is back up and running, alive and kicking.

Just like a runner getting sudden cramps while participating to a long race,Run The Planet went through a painful moment, but quickly recovered with the providential help of our programmers, and we are now ready to face the new year by offering you more articles, more resources, more descriptions, more races and more links. From runners to runners, and always free of charge. But we will talk about it in the next newsletter.

Stay tuned. And as usual, keep running the planet.

Time is running out!

The big news this month is that "The Last Marathon" trip for 2003 is nearly sold out. We will be leaving for Antarctica late in February and I can guarantee that it is a voyage that will change your life.

Seeing the continent of Antarctica was the one of the most extraordinary experiences that I have ever had. The stark beauty, the vastness of the landscape, and the almost surreal light and colors have to be seen to be understood.

This year, in addition to the ½ and full marathon, we will be participating in the "The 1st Antarctica Kayaking Championships". We will be out on the water in Neko Harbor paddling among the glaciers, icebergs, and Minke whales. It will be unbelieveable, I'm sure.

So... if you're still undecided, now's the time to act. For more information, go to www.marathontour.com/antarctica

I hope you'll join me.

Sponsor of the month

NO NEED FOR SPEED - John Bingham's new book "No Need for Speed: A Beginner's Guide to the Joy of Running" (paperback, 224 pages, Rodale Press, 2002, ISBN: 1579544290) explores both the why and the how of running for the rest of us. With information both practical (how to find the right running shoes for you, when to enter a race, what to eat before a run) and inspirational (focus on where you are instead of where you want to be, accepting the body you have, the beauty of being realistic about goals), John extends a trusted hand and expert advice to beginners and veterans alike.
