A Runner's Painting: Untitled No. 14

Title: Untitled No. 14
Author: Frog
Media: Acrylic on canvas
Size: 80 x 170 centimeters

This is my fourteenth year of running. And, even though injuries have slowed me over the past three years, I still look forward to each and every run. Running is the keystone of my spirituality. Frequently, as in the case of "Untitled No. 14", sport, running in particular, will set the theme for the work early on in the process. I have to say, I truly enjoy just letting the paint guide me through the compositions in such cases. That is also my approach to running. Relax and go where it takes you. If I had to place a title on this process I'd say it's a combination of free association, realism, and expressionism. "Untitled No. 14" is one of my first attempts to standardize some of my own unique and engaging moves. The thing I want most is for the viewer to easily identify my efforts to engage their curious side. I willingly offer the first clues with recognizable marks and hints of recognizable imagery. Upon entering one of these gateways, the viewer can now explore all of the things I've painted for them. I paint numerous entrances and exits as well as seemingly infinite and always beautiful diversions for those of you easily interrupted during your travels. I have learned to be more observant by looking at my own work more closely after having them in storage for a while. To me, painting is one of the few disciplines that continues to stand the tests of time, and technology.
