So Slow, They Ran Past Me Again

Crossing the Finish Line

By Simon Grasshopper - My first run... a fundraiser for the Heart Fund in February 2003. I had been training for six months and was just recovering from a back injury. Didn't know if I could finish three miles (the route). Well, when I got to the start line I discovered three guys I work with were running too. They started the race, and I stayed with those guys about 200 yards before they decided that I was too slow for them. I made my way very slowly along the course but enjoyed it immensely. Radio stations and live bands were out in force, as the Heart Fund is a big in event in my hometown. Crowds were out lining the streets and homeowners were giving out soda, thirst quenchers and candy. Well, with about a half mile left to go, the guys from work passed me again! They had stopped at a business along the route that served adult beverages and refreshed themselves!!! I was so slow they were able to repass me! Anyway, I kept at it. And I did finish!!! The guys from work were even at the finish line to cheer for me...
