Virginia Marathons

Hampden-Sydney

Hampden-Sydney Marathon - November. The course is an out-and-back course beginning and ending on the campus of Hampden-Sydney College located in central Virginia. The majority of the run will be on rural Virginia backroads (asphalt). The course has rolling hills with a few challenging ones. The elevation at the start and finish is 540 feet. The elevation at mile 13 is 730 feet. The steepest grade is 4.5% for one half mile. Hampden-Sydney College is located on almost 900 acres in central Virginia 60 miles west of Richmond, 50 east of Lynchburg, 60 miles west of Petersburg, and 70 miles south of Charlottesville. Farmville is 4 miles north of the college. The philosophy behind this race is to provide the runners in the region the opportunity to run a marathon in a setting other than is typically held in a larger metropolitan area. This race is being run in a rural country setting through the rolling hills of central Virginia. If you prefer a smaller race where you will not lose precious minutes at the start and get lost in the crowd, then this race is for you. We hope you will come join us.
