Kurzwandern im Dreiländereck by Heinz Dräger, paperback, 96 pages, Meyer&Meyer Verlag (2000), ISBN: 3891242182
This practical German book provides the reader with 20 short hikes around and about Aachen, in the Dreiländereck region. No matter if they lead to the Augustinerweg or to the Cyclops Rocks or to our neighbors in Belgium and the Netherlands, each trail can be easily accessed from the city center of Aachen. Each hike description includes helpful information, anecdotes, historical information and stories, accompanied by the pen sketches created by the author's hand. Each trail is described in detail using street names and descriptions, featuring complete information about location and distance. Each hiking suggestion also contains a simple hiking map. The author, Heinz Dräger, born in 1920, is a true Berliner from wedding. He came to Aachen in 1945, learned to love the old imperial town and became Aachener by heart. As a nature lover, he explored the wonderful, green surroundings of the city. He was drawn to the nearby Northern Eifel down to the Southern part, and he also explored a great part of the Belgian Hohen Venns up to the foothills up the Ardennes on foot. He also hiked to the Limburger heathland in the Netherlands, as well as the extensive Heinsberg region up to the Natupark Schwalm-Nette.
