I worked at McMurdo Station from 1989 to 1996. There are various running routes around McMurdo Station including running up the road leading up Observation Hill, back down the other side, past the Helo Pad, back through town, down to Hut Point and back. Great workout and does not require a person to "check out" for safety reasons. Excellent place for training due to the thin air and hills. Unfortunately, you need to be employed for work to go there which is possible through the contractor who is Asa in Denver. Hills and sometimes thick snow makes for great training also and the scenery is an inspiration. In my time working there, there has been organized runs such as "The Scott's Hut Race" and "Observation Hill race".
