There are two main places. The first is around Lake Burley Griffin. There are several options. Going over the two bridges in a loop is about 4.5 km. Going from Kings Ave bridge all the way around via the Scrivener Dam is about 20.5 km. Going over the dam but crossing over on the lake on Commonwealth Avenue bridge is about 16km. All of these runs are mainly on sealed two way bike and walking paths, so are excellent for running. In October watch out for swooping black and white birds called magpies. It's the breeding season then. The other main running area is the Stromlo forest. There are trail runs (not sealed) through pine and native forests. You start at Deeks Drive or at the recreation area about 1 km further along the Cotter Road. There is a permanent map at Deeks Drive. Running groups go from 8am onwards at the weekend. At the Recreation area facilities are also available. Deek is the nickname for Rob De Castella who made these trails famous in Australia. You can actually add them to your lake run but that's hard to explain without a map. If you can't do either just run on the nearest of the numerous bike paths.
