Although Barbados is a small island, (only 166 sq. miles) there are many places which can considered ideal for walking. Bridgetown is the a very lively shopping area with many older, traditional buildings. On the other hand if you prefer a more scenic view the west coast of Barbados is ideal for walking or running. For example, the borders of St. Peter and St. John are mainly coastal areas, with scenes of sandy white beaches, blue seas and of trees. If you would prefer a more challenging terrain you could try the east coast area. The parishes of St. Andrew and St. Joseph have a more calm and serene atmosphere compared to the city. Also the breathtaking view of the Atlantic ocean and sea breeze helps to aid in the intensity of a walk or run over the hilly terrain.
