For some "hardcore" running you can try the Waiatarua's. This course was made famous by Arthur Lydiard in the 60's with the likes of Peter Snell and Murray Halberg. It starts from the Lynndale Athletic Club in Portage Road, New Lynn, and you can run testing (i.e. hilly) circuits of about 17, 20, or 22 miles. Almost all of the circuits are on sealed roads. It would pay to run with someone who knows where they are going too! Runs leave Lynndale each Sunday morning at 8 am. Much of the runs go through native bush and you can experience great views of Auckland and its harbours.
