In my last couple of stays in Shanghai, I have managed to find a way out of the monotony of the hotel treadmills. My last stay was Pudong-side in the hotel with the glass globe on the end near the Pearl Tv Tower (World Exhibition Centre Hotel?). The Pudong area was pretty much concrete desert and for China, near deserted. Rock hard surface aside it was all runable with a particularly good kilometer or so loop around a park within a few minutes of the Pearl Tower. Whilst the Bund has all the attractions, Pudong has nothing and hence the space for a decent run.
