Jaen is small enough to run around and through, taking in historical and natural sights. An excellent circular run with views over Jaen may be had starting in several places. You can start from different points following a circular route around the town. I recommend you to start from the Cathedral arriving in that same place. On a Sunday the town is dead so it is fun to run where the cars normally go. Jaen is especially good to run through because you can go on a not very long run and see the entire town. One possible alternative is running the "Ruta de los Puentes" (Bridges' course, 16k more or less). Starting in the gate of "La Salobreja" (where you can find a track field: you can buy a daily entrance ticket for only one hundred pesetas) you take the road to "Puente Jontoya". This is a residential area 4k away from Jaen. Once there, cross the main road carefully, take a right and proceed along the main road to "Puente de la Sierra". From here you will find the hardest part of the course. You will arrive in "Puente Nuevo" and finally, following always the main paved road, you will reach Jaen. You usually see a few other runners and the occasional cyclists or walkers. The disadvantage of the route is that it is not traffic-free, though traffic is not very dense. This route is excellent for day-time running. Anyone is welcome to come along.
