My favorite area to run in Bitburg are the farm trails that snake their way through the countryside. If you are not from the area, park your car at the McDonalds outside the Us Air Force gate. From there, head into the village of Moestch just down the street. In the village you will find a fountain that can be used as a drinking fountain (most villages seem to have these). Soon you will see the blacktop paths heading off into the countryside. These paths wander through shady forests and next to rushing rivers. Occasionally I've come across religious shrines (complete with burning candles on Sundays). Continue on these paths and they will take you from village to village. They can be quite hilly though and sometimes the blacktop runs out and you'll be running on a dirt road. Beware of manure and mud puddles and you'll be fine. The clean air, friendly locals and endless farm roads all contibute to a short out and back or a long afternoon run.
