In Strasbourg, they have developed a 15-plus kilometer "Ceinture Verte" (Green Belt) that makes a loop around Strasbourg. Most of it follows the various rivers and is quite scenic. There are several road crossings, but many times the paths go under the roads. There are also several placards showing the entire path system, so you won't get lost. You can access it from many points, obviously, but if you are in Petite France (the picturesque old town) from there, find the contemporary art museum, and the path will be in front, along the river.
