While running in St. Denis you might want to see some of the sights of the city. Of interest are the Monument aux Morts, the tall victory monument; the Hôtel de Ville (town hall), the Cathédrale de St-Denis; and the Préfecture. The hill districts behind St. Denis offer great views over the town and are starting points for treks to La Roche Écrite, a tall peak obscured by clouds sometimes. La Réunion has three cirques, or natural amphitheaters, formed by erosion of the Piton des Neiges, the inactive volcano at the center of the island. The Cirque de Mafate is located in one of the most remote and beautiful areas of La Réunion. Unlike the two, Cirque de Mafate is not accessible by road. Mafate is a beautiful place for hiking.
