The best place I found was down Castle Lane (behind Bambalapitiya Flats, Colombo) along the beach. Attempting to run anywhere on the streets is very dangerous and the sidewalks are usually too crowded to be comfortable for runners (or walkers). The beaches are particularly beautiful at sunset. But, a cool, early morning run is just as nice. In the up-country, in Kandy, running around the lake is particularly nice, again if you avoid traffic.
