Another excellent run or walk with less climbing starts from the Flotterstone public house on the A702, which is on a country bus route but is outside the city bus area. A private road goes northwest and then turns southwest, going 5.8km to a farmhouse at the top of the second reservoir (330m elevation). The first half is paved, the second half is gravel, there may be puddles but no mud. There is a choice of footpaths which go beyond. Nearby, the "Carnethy Five Hill Race" (6 miles, 2500 feet ascent) takes place in February, and the "Pentland Skyline Race" (16 miles, 6200 feet ascent) takes place in October each year.
