Along the Neckar and up the Philosophenweg. Length: about 13 km. Characteristic: scenic, hilly. Start at the Sports Institute of Heidelberg University (Im Neuenheimer Feld 700). Run along the road (Tiergartenstrasse) towards the parking lot of the Tiergartenschwimmbad. Cross this parking lot to reach the path along the Neckar channel. Proceed along this path for about 4k, keeping the channel and later the river always to your rigth. Enjoy the view of Heidelberg Castle in front of you. Underneath the second bridge, cross the street to your left and start climbing. Cross the next street and reach Albert-Ueberle-Strasse. More climbing, one switchback. Reach Philosophenweg, enjoy the view, watch the photographing tourists. Straight on, until there is a hut at a forking way. Turn left twice, and run back 50m further up than Philosophenweg. When you meet tarmac again, turn left again, go down quite steeply and regain your way out. Descend back to the Neckar and trot along its shores back to the Sports Institute.
