Start at the Presidio on the beach. Walk down the path to the Golden Gate Bridge. Up on the bridge and over the bay. Down off the bridge in Sausalito. Circle under the bridge and through neighborhood to Sausalito. Stop and have lunch in a great bistro. Shop in the wonderful shops. Catch the ferry back across the bay to Fisherman's Wharf, passing Alcatraz (no credit for any walking you do on board the Ferry!). Get off at Fisherman's Wharf, enjoy the shops and sights. Walk back down the beach/walking path to the Presidio. This event is about 12k, I think. It is a wonderful tourist thing to do whether you get credit or not, and sure beats driving.
