At the north end of the Golden Gate Bridge, continue on the bridge sidewalk to the Vista Point parking lot (you can't miss it - the walkway takes you there). Go up the small flight of stairs to the parking lot and immediately look to your right. You'll see a flight of stairs going down under the bridge. This lead to a catwalk that takes you under the bridge to another parking lot on the west side. Cross the parking lot to the (obvious) trail, which is the Coastal Trail. Take this trail, which gradually climbs the Headlands ridge. Run north along the ridge. You can continue on to Tennessee Valley, then run all the way to the ocean and go overland back to Rodeo Beach. Or take the (signed) trail to the left down all the way to Rodeo Beach, a very picturesque site on the ocean. Tennessee Valley makes for a more scenic route back, or rather a choice of return routes. Anyway, explore and have a great time! Also, Bay Area bookstores sell a wonderful, very detailed trail map of the Marin Headlands and Mount Tamalpais.
