North to South Tarawa (or North Tarawa switchback), 50-50 gravel-sand. Some tree shade. Very rural. Either a) Check it's low tide in the lagoon. Take the bus to the end of the sealed road (Tanaea). Get off. Start running North across the bridge. Keep going across alternating small islets and channels (may be a bit wet). Follow the dirt road until you get tired. Rest. Run back the way you came. Try to get as far as Broken Bridges (now repaired) - there's a good swimming hole. Or b) hire a motor canoe to take you across the lagoon to North Tarawa (Buariki), to arrive at low tide. Get off. Start running South. Run over alternating islets, reef passes and lagoon sand flats till you get to Tanaea. Long run (20 miles). Tiabo!
