For a more pleasant run, try running along the Saigon River on Ton Duc Thang and Ben Chuong Streets. The Saigon Hash House Harriers are a group of social runners as opposed to serious running (you may find that you are the only person there dressed head to toe in Tech-fine gear!). Like their Hashing colleagues in Hanoi, they like to have fun and beer plays an important role in their activities. However, this said, connecting with the Saigon (a jovial and welcoming group of ex pats) is a great way to have an opportunity to run outside of Hanoi: likely in countryside you'd not have an opportunity to run in otherwise. I had the great opportunity of running with these folks through rice paddies, farm country, small rural villages and bamboo groves. The Hash meet on Saturday afternoons at 2:30 at the Caravelle Hotel, hop on their bus and head out into the country for a fun adventure run. There is a nominal fee for the runs to cover the cost of the bus and the refreshments. Runs vary in distance and location. Last known web address for this group is: http://www.saigonh3.com. Some Saigon Hash runs are for men only, others are "mixed": it's best to check in advance to ensure that you are able to run with these folks.
