Run The Planet is proud to introduce our new affiliate Run.com, the best running route resource on the web. If you are looking for a new Kleve running route, or want to share your favorite Kleve running routes with the rest of the word, Run.com is the place to be.
For road running, you can take advantage of the well maintained bike path system along the smaller highways (Bundesstrassen) and other rural roadways, and run to the pretty medieval town of Kalkar (17 km from downtown Kleve, haunted castle Moyland on the way), or combine road and forest trails on a somewhat hilly two-country course to Nijmegen (20-30 km, several variations possible), come back by bus or hitch hike, and do visit small Kranenburg with its little Joseph Beuys collection). If you get hungry, enjoy the what the excellent bakeries in Frasselt and Kranenburg have to offer! Water fountains and public bathrooms are unusual in this area, so take water for longer runs. German law gives you the right to use any bathroom facilities in cafes or restaurants, even if you are not a patron; however, there are none within the forest area. The climate is almost always good for running; but forest trails may get somewhat muddy in rainy wheather. Enjoy! And my apologies to the local running clubs - please add any suggestions or correct me where I am wrong, since I am currently out of town, and may not be up to date!
