Let me add some info to running in Munich. If you plan on a visit, make sure your hotel is in jogging distance to the river. From there you have all the options: run upstream along the river (Isar) and out of the city or downstream into the Englischer Garten and probably continue along the river as long as you want - it's an endless running trail (ends literally where the Isar meets the Danube resp. upstream into the Alps). By far the best shop for runners is InTeam Laufshop in Schwabing (Belgradstrasse 3, phone: 309430): there you get all kinds of gear, infos on local races, and also friendly and cooperative staff (all experienced runners, former international class athletes).
