If you happen to live in Somerville, Arlington, or North Cambridge you could try out bike route which starts near Davis Square in Somerville, crosses Massachusetts Avenue into North Cambridge, to Alewife (just half a mile away from Fresh Pond) and then goes along Spy Pond parallel to Massachusetts Avenue into Arlington, crosses Massachusetts Avenue again and goes all the way to Lexington. I think one could make over 10 miles one-way along this bike route, and it's very nice and scenic run.
