As of February 2001 it is strongly recommended to avoid running alone in Algeri if you are a stranger. I was there with accompanying people and I was always escorted around by someone from security, due to the risk of violence from the Islamic integralists. This situation is probably going to change in the near future but now it is not to be considered a safe place for running alone outside an official race.
