Pitcairn provides the greatest runs in the world. One must remember that Pitcairn is the most isolated spot in the whole world. Therefore, running takes on a whole new meaning. One can start their running at The Landing. If you run right up the hill you will end up in the little cluster of homes known as Adamstown. There are paths leading all over the island. Most of the running is very rugged and goes up steep hills. Do be very careful whether hiking or running! The island has an erosion problem and the walk ways can give way. Also, don't get caught out at night without a torch. Pitcairn is very dangerous when it gets dark. One can easily wander off a path and not have a clue where they are going. Even the most dedicated runner should make up their minds to take hiking days as well. Go "Down Rope" to a deserted beach to take in the ancient petrographs. The climb down is very steep and tricky. Slow down. After the hike go up to the radio shack to admire the Norfork Pines and eat a watermelon or pineapple from an islander's garden (the islanders are very gracious about visitors helping themselves to their produce). A good run is over to "Christian's Cave". Leave Adamstown and head toward the school and keep going up. The view is beautiful and one can think of the brooding Fletcher Christian watching for British ships to bring him to justice. On the way back stop by the school to visit the classes. The islanders have marked everything very carefully. One futher note: the islander go everywhere on four wheeled motorized contraptions. A visitor should make up their minds not to get on one. I can understand the villagers needing them but a visitor will miss so much by riding around this way. No, these should be avoided and walking and running is the only way to get about the island.
