One of the best places to run in Aachen is just five minutes driving from the city center. You can also get there by bus, just hop off at "Hangeweiher" bus stop. There are many locals training on a 2.3k course around the scenic Hangeweiher Park. You can't miss it! You will be running on a gravel pavement throughout the course. The avenues provide plenty of shade on hot summer days. If you'd like to go for a longer run, you can easily expand the lap and run into the forest. If you cross the Luxemburger Ring you'll have to climb uphill for a while, but you will be rewarded with great trails. There is practically no end to the variations there. Some of the nicest runs, however, will take you to places called Adamshäuschen, Funkturm, Dreiländereck and Hanbruch. You can rely on big maps, which you will find every mile or two, usually at forest junctions.
