From anywhere in town it is easy to find the Grüngürtel - basically a park around the inner city where they buried World War II ruins. At Aachener Weiher, a little lake at Aachener Straße, you cross the Universitätsstraße and follow an alley along a little canal; once you are there, just go straight ahead, cross a couple of streets and you'll end up in the Stadtwald (city forest), which is good for another hour of running.
