Without a doubt the best place to run in Varanasi is on the campus of Benares Hindu University, south of the city. The roads are wide, shady, and relatively free of motorized traffic, and the campus stretches for miles. There is even a 400m running track, where young Indian athletes train barefoot in the morning. You will still receive more stares in Varanasi than you would running in, say, Delhi or Bombay. And women might feel uncomfortable - there seem to be no female runners anywhere in Varanasi.
