Penjikent is one of Tajikistan's major towns, near the Pamir mountain range. The Pamirs are excellent running country, good paths, Spring weather for 6 months of the year, superb views, clean air, no traffic. Often steep running at high altitude. I had a couple of years of excellent running there. The only glitch (there is always one) are the big shepard dogs - but avoid the infrequent goat and sheep flocks the dogs are there to protect. You can see the flocks miles away in the excellent visibility. Penjikent also safe to run in, and you can get a cold beer afterwards.
