Sultanahmet area. You can run alongside the Sea of Marmara on the side of Kennedy Caddesi (Avenue) for as long as you want to. The road snakes around for miles, and if your balance is good, you can run on the seawall. I saw a barefoot runner wearing only shorts who did this and then jumped in for a swim. Depending on which way you go, you’ll pass dozens of fishermen, the ruined hulk of an old commercial fishing boat listing by the edge of the water, and a lineup of hotels and restaurants. I had been concerned about wearing shorts in this secular but heavily Islamic country where many women wear ankle-length coats and cover their heads, but no one seemed to mind and offered many friendly smiles.
