Cidade Universitária (University city), where UFRJ is located, is a great place for running because it is all surrounded by grass. You can go there by Linha Amarela or by Avenida Brasil near the 8k by the Ilha do Governador entrance. There is a 400 meters track marked every 50 meters that is great for interval training. After the training you can refresh yourself bathing in a nice shower near the track. The best time for running is after 8:00 am when the walking people had already left the place.
