The "Cycling Road" - Americans would call it a "bike path" - goes 25 kilometers from Chitose to Lake Shikotsu. It crosses only one highway in the first 15 kilometers. When you get to the point where it divides, either way is good. The paths go to both sides of the lake. If you need directions from a hotel in town, ask for the "cycling road". It begins next to the Chitose River (only a block or two from the Nikko Hotel).
