Bishkek offers surprisingly good running for men and women. Prospekt Mira, which runs south out of the city, offers a broad sidewalk that runs for several miles along the road to the mountains. From the Pinara Hotel, head towards the mountains on the moderate uphill climb past the United States embassy and up to the Business Trade Park for a 5-6-mile out-and-back course. You may even see a few locals in track suits and tennis shoes on their morning runs. Trail runners with a free day on their hands should consider taking a bus or taxi to nearby Ala-Archa National Park (further south of the city) for spectacular views of mountain streams, snow-capped peaks, and juniper stands... even the presidential yurt!
