Hi, here is a tip for all Berlin visitors who are staying in the Steglitz/Lichterfelde area (southwest of Berlin). Go to the Stadtpark Steglitz (close to the S- and U-Bahn station Steglitz) and cross the park until you reach the Teltower Kanal. This canal is going all the way through the southwest of Berlin to Potsdam and beyond. If you start running along the canal in Steglitz, you can run until you reach the little town of Kleinmachnow (bordering Berlin), and then turn back. This would be around 25 kilometers all together. Of course, you can reach the canal from many other spots. The canal becomes very "wild" (lots of green) the closer you get to Kleinmachnow, the only things you will see are other runners, an occasional hiker or biker, and anglers. When in Kleinmachnow, you can cross the canal and come back on the south side, which will lead you along the former border (i.e. the Berlin wall patrol track in the middle of a rather swampy area. An experience! If you are adventurous, you can even continue further than Kleinmachnow but this implies that you carry some some sort of map with you, since there are a few areas along the canal where you cannot go (private properties and a higway crossing the canal), and therefore you have to find a way to get around those. However, eventually you will find the canal again. And then, just keep on running! Have fun! Taking something to drink with you is advisable as there is not a spot on the way where you could buy something.
