The Rimutaka Incline is a great run through some real wilderness including dense native bush and over wild rushing white water. But the footing is firm as it is the path of an old railway track. The start is 10km north of the Upper Hutt railway station, along Highway 2. The first part of the run is a gradual climb on good gravel to the summit of the Rimutaka range, then a steeper descent along a 4WD track to a car park near Featherstone. The track passes through 4 tunnels! Options are: to the summit & back, about 18km, one way (have someone pick you up from the Featherstone end) about 18km, or out & back about 36km. A beauty for early on a Sunday morning.
