In downtown Luanda you cannot miss the Avenida de 4 Fevereiro which starts right by the Luanda port. This is where it is nice to start your run. The Avenida leads you along the seaside on a beautiful passway with palm trees, facing the skyline of Luanda. The way continues to be nice like that for about two kilometers until you get to a petrol station. While it seemed to be just a normal petrol station to me, I understand that this station is a special symbol of progress to the Angolans. Most of the runners I met return from this point back to the port i.e. just run back and forth between port and petrol station on Avenida 4 de Fevereiro. If you are adventurous and not too concerned about security you also might run further. The road leads you, always close to the water, passing the Luanda yachting club, passing the Hotel Panorama to the "Ilhia" which is a peninsula located on the opposite side of the Luanda port. From the port all the way to the end of "Ilhia" should be around 9 kilometers one way. It is a beautiful run with provides you with a rewarding view of the city skyline. It is recommendable to run early in the morning since there is less heat and also less traffic.
