I lived in Santo Domingo from 1995 to 1997 while working for CARE. We lived near Parque Mirador where I would run every morning that I was in town. It is 11 kilometers all the way around and the south side road was closed off to traffic in the morning and evenings weekdays, and all day weekends. It earned the nickname "Avenida de Salud" (Health Avenue). It was very safe and clean.
