Claimed by Comoros, but administered by France, Mayotte is an island of the Comoro archipelago, located below the equator in the Mozambique channel (Southern Africa). The total lenght of the island's roads is approximately 100 kilometers, one third of which unpaved. There are many empty beaches so finding where to run is not a problem. The best beach is definitely Ngouja Beach, approximately 45 minutes south of Mamoudzou, that stretches for almost half a mile and is home to giant turtles. People are generally friendly but mostly Muslim, therefore pay appropriate attention to what you wear when running.
