If you want a hilly run - one of my favourites is from the Sign of the Takahe on a track which follows the Road up to the Sign of the Kiwi - the track is approximately 4 kilometers - making it a pleasurable 8 kilometers return run. If you want to extend it there are varying track around the Hills from the Sign of the Kiwi which are well signposted. There is also a track which runs behind the Sign of the Kiwi where you can be exhilarated by a fabulous panoramic view of Lyttelton Harbour and looking down to Governors Bay. This track can take you around the back of these hills to the Sign of the Bellbird. This run is approximately 20 kilometers return to the Sign of the Takahe, which is one of the most scenic grunty runs easily accessible from the centre of Christchurch. Plenty of parking available at the Sign of the Takahe - conveniences there and waterfountains half way up the track and at the arrival of the Sign of the Kiwi where there is also a shop and water available behind the shop.
