Mafinga is located past Iringa in the southern highlands of Tanzania. Running at all times of the day is possible and quite safe as are all routes. Mornings sometimes need a light pair of gloves, and the worst is a little sweat in the afternoons. For a scenic but tough run, try heading on the loop road (big gravel road) that is at the T-intersection at the beginning of the town in-between 2 gas stations. You can buy water or breads as you need it along this road every 5-10 kilometers in little shops, and the road goes for over 25 miles (all the farther I can see it on maps). Otherwise if you find a path, give it a run. However, watch for bamboo sticks with grass tied around them, as these indicate metal animal traps in the trail by the stick (just go around the stick).
