I studied a year at Hannover University, and I ran everyday in the park across the street called Georgengarten. It is a fairly large park with plenty of trails and a couple of man-made lakes. A feature of my path went around Herrenhaeusergarten. I also went out of the part along a small road behind the park. When I had class I would have to wake up with the sun, and I still saw the older people up taking care of their beautiful German "garten"s. Ever now and then you will see the old men out in there lawns drinking a Hefe-Weizen watching the people go by. If you are a day runner, you will see the park live with Germans doing what all Germans love to do (walking their dogs). The park is always filled with college students sun bathing, reading, grilling, or just sitting on a park bench drinking beer. I have noticed that the German runners are not that friendly though. Don't expect the friendly runners "hi" or wave. But if you are lucky you can find a foreign student or a vacationer.
