Methven is on the flat Canterbury Plains one hour from Christchurch. It has the fabulous backdrop of Mt Hutt and the Southern Alps. A nice walk/run is along the Methven Walkway which skirts the RDR (Rangitata Diversion Race, a body of water). Starting from the township, the track goes through Pine trees by the racecourse then onto a track beside farm land and the water. Walking will take you about one hour but can be extended to around the outskirts of the Methven golf course or beyond.
