Please remember if/when you get the chance to go to Uluru that the traditional owners of the area prefer that you do not climb, run or walk on the Ayers Rock. As stated previously, it is possible (and great...) to go around the rock, which is just around 6 miles as I understand it. I had every intention of going up until I went there, saw how spectacular it was, and decided to not do it after visiting the visitors center and speaking with locals.
