Run The Planet is proud to introduce our new affiliate Run.com, the best running route resource on the web. If you are looking for a new Chicago running route, or want to share your favorite Chicago running routes with the rest of the word, Run.com is the place to be.
Try using Run.com to find a run, or publish a run of your own.
A good trail in the west/southwest suburbs (Lemont?) is Waterfall Glenn. Take I-55 to Cass Avenue South, you will see signage for the parking lot. There are several other access points/trailheads as well. The trail is a 9.5 mile loop consisting mostly of crushed gravel or dirt. They have recently added markers at each mile. The trail runs mostly through forested areas so it can offer some shade in the summer months and is always a pretty run any time of year, but particularly in the fall. Be advised there are moderate hills on the trail, a rarity in the Chicago area, also there are only two points on the trail that offer water (well water you pump by hand) and those points are relatively close to each other, so you may need to bring water with you. Printed trail maps are usually available at the trailheads. If you stay on the main trail you won't get lost, additional maps are posted along the route. It is fairly popular with runners so safety is not a concern. The trail is also used by bikers, strollers and occasional horseback riders, but congestion has never been even a slight issue in all my visits. Enjoy.
