The Long Walk is a very good run. From the Castle gates to the Copper Horse and back is 5.1 miles. It is a very straight run, composed of several slight inclines, ending with a rather steep climb up a grassy mound to reach the statue. I run it several days a week, and pass lots of people walking (some running it as well). The only cars allowed on this road are park rangers, so you rarely see them at all. The deer can be out in massive herds at time and literally stand right next to the road as you run by. It is a sight to see. The run can be deceptive at times as when you start, you can see the Copper Horse just off in the distance. It seems like it is only a mile or so away. Only after you have been running for about 15 minutes does it seem like it is getting closer. This is a good run for me, as I am only a 8:15/mile runner. I can do the run and get back to the office to shower all within my lunch break, which is when I run it.
