Golden Gate Park: from downtown, take the "N-Judah" Muni (Municipal Railway) line and get out at 9th and Irving. Walk one block north and you are at the entrance to the park. The circumference of Golden Gate Park, run on the paths inside the border, is the approximate distance of a 10K, with good variance, almost all tree-covered, and mostly unpaved. You can start at any point and run the circumference, and finish where you started. Peaceful, quiet and the trees block the wind!
