Melbourne has the famous "Tan" run, which is a 3.8 km loop around the Royal Botanical Gardens on the edge of the central business district. The surface is mainly smooth gravel and shaded for its entire length by magnificent trees. On its northern side, the running trail follows the Yarra River and looks across to Olympic Park, home of Melbourne's newly relaid athletic track. The Yarra River bicycle path, which follows the course of the river for many kilometers to the east, links with the Tan track.
