The trails and roads around the Santa Pola Lighthouse, just south of the Alicante airport are fabulous, and frequented by many area residents and visitors (like me) alike. Trails and roads can be combined for over 10 kilometers. Some hilly areas too, but no water or restrooms. Since I am usually there in the summer (July and August) I can attest to the intense heat and humidity, but as long as you go in the morning (say, before 9 am) it is bearable. It is great to then cool off at some of the best beaches on the Mediterranean!
